so to stick with my original plan of writing about music i guess i'll get back on track. sorry about the last random post (just felt like writing about that)
well recently there has been a new song (is it new? or is it just new to me? who knows?) that basically depicts college perfectly (or at least semi-perfect). its called "i love college" by asher roth. here are some lyrics that really caught my eye:
"with my good friends is all i need
pass out at 3 wake up at 10
go out to eat then do it again"
no if you've done this raise your hand. and if you didn't raise your hand use the hand that you didn't raise and smack yourself in the face for lying.
now if you have heard the song, it is not a perfect example of college (or longwood for that matter) but it is definitely a good representation of the fun weekends, crazy weekdays, and everything else that makes college fun and entertaining.
"i cant tell you what i learned from school
but i could tell you a story or two"
everything about this song just makes me think about how i'll never forget the crazy times that my friends and i have had on a friday night (whether it involves a party or not). i'll always remember the story of pavlov's dog and i'll never forget how to write a case study (thank you dr. rao) but i'll always come home for breaks and laugh my ass off at that one time i found my roommate dancing in an empty room to "hotel california" by the eagles and simply shaking my head as a response.
"do i really have to graduate
or can i just stay here for the rest of my life?"
i'm ready to move out into the real world; but am i ready to grow up? am i ready to wake up and simply remember that mound of paperwork i finished the night before? am i ready to leave the classroom experience and the nightlife that IS college? ....not now.

why am i friends with these people?
so i spend a lot of my life wondering how i find the friends i find...and why i'm still friends with them. i've got two sets of friends (when i say two sets i really mean about 10). i've got the friends that i've ridden the bus with from age 4 to age 16, the friends that i was only friends with because they went to high school with me and now we go to college together (the not-so-real-friends as i like to call them), then i've got the friends that i eat at d-hall with, hang out in my room after d-hall with, hang out one hour after they've left my room and we've eaten yet again at d-hall with, and live at hampden-sydney with (after our homework, eating, and everything else you can do at longwood is over with).
talk about a complicated life i lead! i've miraculously met 4 girls from my hometown that i have everything in common with from the way we all wear glasses at night and contacts in the day to the way we've all become less conservative since high school. and then to add to this group i've met 3 girls at longwood that we've all got only one thing in common (the fact that a certain curry suite had a major influence on our freshman year) but has all managed to shape the way we act, think, date, and even drink. (; there is also a group of hampden-sydney gentlemen that loves to hang out with us...is it because we're girls or is it because they actually enjoy hanging out with us? i choose the second one...even if its wrong.
there are many other groups but its too complicated to blog about...and well i just don't feel like explaining it to people that don't know me or them.
but anyways i guess i'm friends with all of these people because they are the people that i've become accustomed to and who have become accustomed to me as well. i'm not sure how things happen but they do. about once a month (yes this is how often we discuss this) my college friends and i discuss how we all met and how fucked up it is that we owe our BFF status to boys that we unfortunately still talk to.
is it the stars, luck, destiny, alcohol, or longwood's housing systems that bring my friends and i together? who knows. but for now whatever has brought me to my 10 groups of friends is working and i'm content. (;

Epic Music Fail
Well, as I was decideing what to write about in this blog, several ideas came to mind: Rihanna and Chris Brown (WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!!??), diversity amongst communication studies majors, Hampden-Sydney boys vs. Longwood boys, etc... All of these ideas are things that are interesting, but not something I wanted to use for my first blog post.
How often do you go to college and find a roommate that fits your personality to a T? Well it definitely didn't happen to me my first semester. However, i did find a good one for my second year in college. She's great and she has a great personality. BUT she loves country music!!!
I'm not sure how to stress this to the true effect that it is but I do not love country music.
Faith Hill's sappy love songs, Brad Paisley's redneck adventures on a river, and Taylor Swift's strange ability to turn a tragedy about "two star-crossed lovers" into her own life does not make me want to listen to country music all day...or any part of the day for that matter.
Maybe it's because I'm from the place where people actually believe that Romeo and Juliet ends happily and that the best thing to do on a Sunday afternoon is floating on a river drinking endless amounts of Bud Light, but I have never grasped the concept of how this could make someone happy, relaxed, or even intelligent.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not the girl who sits and listens to Bach and Beethoven all day but that is just my thoughts on country music. Tom Petty, Elton John, Coldplay, and yes, even Britney Spears and Lil' Wayne make me happy. These people have upbeat, relazing, and fun lyrics that make me want to have a good day.
Well this is my first blog post on my rant of how I feel that country music is an epic fail. (:
